10 Days Rwanda Safari

Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda

The company’s safari guide driver will welcome you at the Kigali airport then take you to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel / Impala Hotel / Gorilla Hotel or similar

Day 2: Kigali City Tour

After breakfast, drive to Butare, visit Nyanza Palace en-route and then proceed to tour the National Museum plus several academic and research institutions found there. Have lunch and then drive to Nyungwe Forest national park. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge / Gisakura Guest House or your preferred safari accommodation

Day 3: Nyungwe Forest National Park

Take breakfast then go chimp tracking in Nyungwe Forest and also see Angolan Colobus, l’hoest monkeys and blue monkeys. You will go with packed lunch which you will have in the park then go hiking in the well-maintained trails. Birding is highly recommended in the forest so bring your binoculars with you if you find bird watching interesting.

Day 4: Lake Kivu Kibuye

Take breakfast then drive to Kibuye, a beautiful resort town on Lake Kivu. Check in at the hotel, have lunch and then head to the beach for relaxing moments. You can have a swim in the lake since it is Bilharzia free. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena hotel / Moriah Hill Resort Hotel / Palm Beach Hotel or your preferred safari accommodation

Day 5: Gisenyi and Ruhengeri

After breakfast, go for a ride in a speed-boat heading to Gisenyi. You will see fishing villages and meet fishermen and residents of Idjwi Island in Congo who row their dugout canoes for long distances to go to the Rwanda markets. You will have lunch in Gisenyi and if time allows, cross the border to Goma, a place which was devastated by the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano. After that, leave for Ruhengeri. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Mountain View Lodge / La Palme Hotel / Kinigi Guest House or similar safari camp / safari lodge

Day 6: Parc des Volcans Gorillas

Take breakfast then go on a gorilla tracking excursion in the Parc National des Volcanoes. If you’re lucky and find them soon, you will spend an hour with them and then return to the lodge for lunch. After that, you will see the amazing sights of Lake Bulera and Ruhondo together with the Virunga Volcanoes. Overnight at Gorilla Mountain View Lodge / La Palme Hotel / Kinigi Guest House or similar safari camp / safari lodge

Day 7: Rwanda Parc National des Volcans

After breakfast go tracking again, but a different gorilla family this time or choose to track golden monkeys in the Parc National des Volcans. Alternatively, you can go mountain climbing to the top of the Bisoke volcano and see its stunning crater lake. After that, you can trek to the grave of Dian Fossey and the former Karisoke Research Centre. You will return to the lodge for a late lunch then check out and transfer to Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel / Impala Hotel / Gorilla Hotel or similar safari camp / safari lodge

Day 8: Rwanda Akagera National Park

You will have breakfast then drive to Akagera national park in eastern Rwanda where you will arrive in time for lunch. You will check in at the Akagera Game Lodge, have lunch then go on a game drive in the afternoon.

Day 9: Akagera National Park

After breakfast, you will set off to explore Akagera Park starting with a boat trip on Lake Ihema where you will see large numbers of hippos and Nile crocodiles plus various bird species. After which you will visit lakes Kivumba, Hago, Mihindi and Rwanyakizinga all ideal for birding with various bird species. Return to your lodge for lunch then head to Akagera Park for a game drive. Dinner and overnight at the Akagera Game Lodge or similar safari accommodation

Day 10: Akagera Game Park – Return to Kigali Rwanda

Wake up to have your breakfast at leisure and then checkout of your safari accommodation to return to Kigali where you will go on city tour of the Rwanda genocide memorial sites, the Nyabugogo market, the pottery project, handicraft shops, and the Franco-Rwandan cultural centre. You will have lunch then be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your flight back home.
